Black Mom Has the Perfect Response to People Asking Why Her Baby Is White With Blonde Hair and Blue Eyes

After countless awkward encounters, TikToker Black mom, Alex McCurry has one simple answer for people who question her family.

A Shocking Surprise in the Delivery Room

When Alex McCurry gave birth to her third child, affectionately nicknamed Pudge Pudge, she and her husband, Rob, were stunned.

Alex, who is Black, and Rob, who is white, already had two children who shared features from both parents. But their newest baby arrived with blonde hair, blue eyes, and light skin, a complete contrast to her siblings.

The family had conceived Pudge Pudge through IVF, and Alex initially worried there might have been a lab mix-up.

“We decided to do the DNA test because she was so white,” Alex joked to The Truly Show.

When the results came back, the baby was, without question, biologically theirs.

Dealing With Ignorance and Racism

While her family has embraced the surprise, Alex says the world hasn’t always been kind.

“This lady complimented me on being such a great nanny,” she told People. “And I was like, ‘I’m her mom.’”

In another incident, Alex says she was followed through a grocery store by someone who suspected she had kidnapped the baby.

“At first, I was like, ‘Why would somebody steal a baby? Do you know how stressful it is to have kids?’” she said with a laugh.

Unfortunately, encounters like these are common for interracial families, and Alex says it’s a reminder that racism and ignorance still persist.

“I should be able to hang out with my child the way I want to,” she said. “I created my page to remind people that racism still exists, even though it shouldn’t.”

Since launching her TikTok during the pandemic, Alex has gained a large following for her honesty, humor, and willingness to talk about identity, family, and love.

When Genetics Do Their Own Thing

After three years of questions and stares, Alex has the perfect response to anyone who doubts her family’s biology.

“Just a reminder, y’all, genetics do whatever they wanna do, okay?” she says in a TikTok video. “I don’t know why my child has blond hair and blue eyes. I don’t know why my other two don’t. I didn’t study that much biology.”

What science does explain is that skin color is determined by hundreds of different gene variants. A Black parent and a white parent can both carry genes for lighter pigmentation, and if a baby inherits both, the result can be a child who appears white.

In some cases, genetic traits from lighter-skinned ancestors, even generations back, can resurface unexpectedly, which explains why families can sometimes look so diverse.

But Alex says she’s done trying to educate people on the science.

“Don’t be asking me those kinds of questions,” she says. “I don’t have time for it anymore. What I do have time for is to remind you that families don’t have to come the way you expect, they just have to love each other.”

Love Is All That Matters

In the end, Alex’s message is simple: biology may make a family, but love sustains it.

“What I do know is that these are all biologically my babies,” she says. “I love them, and I’m gonna teach them to be the best people they can be. And that’s really all that matters.”

With humor, grace, and a little TikTok magic, Alex has turned what could have been an exhausting situation into a powerful conversation about race, genetics, and motherhood in modern America. You can follow Alex McCurry and her family’s journey on TikTok at @4thfreshestmccurry2, where she continues to share candid moments, hilarious commentary, and reminders that love always wins.
